Living in Quebec

A word from Bruno Marchand, Mayor of Québec City

“Québec City is where you want to live!”
If you are looking for a new place to settle down in by yourself or with your family, you have found it! Quebec City is flourishing, safe, and open to diversity, making it a perfect place for newcomers to thrive. This city on a human scale is beautiful and offers all the advantages of big urban centres. Many career opportunities are available while the quality of life is among the best in the world. Furthermore, you will receive a warm welcome from Quebecers.
We will welcome you with open arms. For us, diversity is a precious asset that drives our progress!

The cradle of French-speaking North America

Upon your arrival in Québec City, you will discover one of the largest rivers in North America, the St. Lawrence River, which is an integral part of our local identity.

Québec City is the capital of the province of Quebec and has a population of 848,776 people in 2022 when including the metropolitan area, making it the second-largest city in the province.

The perfect balance of city and nature

The nature enthusiast in you will most certainly fall in love with the Québec City region! The region is bordered with the lush Laurentian mixed forest with abundant lakes and mountains, the ideal environment for outdoors activities and getaways: hiking, skiing, biking, snowmobile, boating, hunting, fishing, dog sleighing...

Plus, several parks and outdoor recreational areas are at your disposal for solo and family activities all year round. In Québec City, there is always something beautiful to discover and something exciting to experience!

Living in a safe environment

In Québec City and its surroundings, you can enjoy life at the fullest without fear of walking along the streets and facing violence, as it is the case with some other big cities. You will discover the advantages of a big city with the calm of a medium-sized city. Québec City and its metropolitan area are known for their safety, with one of the lowest crime rates in North America. Plus, Québec City was name the safest city in Canada to raise children.

A mix of history and modernity, culture and nature, Québec City is the reflection of its citizens. Safe, dynamic, innovative, welcoming, active: it has a thriving economy and an unmet quality of life, with festivals and major events coexisting and succeeding one another season after season.

Québec City is more than just a place to live, it is a place where each member of your family can find their place and thrive. Leaving your home for a new country is a life project and is not easy. This means that choosing a safe and healthy environment where you and your family can grow is a priority.

Different boroughs that you will love

Québec City is divided into six boroughs, each with its own flavour and unique environment and socio-demographic profile. Although different, all six boroughs offer diverse services to meet the needs of its population.

Upon your arrival, you should take the time to find a place to live based on your personality, financial situation and preferences. There is always an option that meets your needs.
